Chap 8: We Want To Have Fun
If you get to know the parents of swimmers in Division I teams, some of them will tell you that swimming isn’t always fun. At the pinnacle of the NVSL are the six best teams, and they all want to be #1. At Dominion Hills, we like to win, but it isn’t our reason for being. Some of the things we do to have fun are:
Pep Rallies: A Pep Rally is held every Friday night at the pool. The time, theme, and cost (if any), will be announced and posted on the Swim Team Bulletin Board.
Friday Morning Breakfasts: Breakfast will be provided on Friday mornings following each practice.
The menu typically rotates between bagels, doughnuts, and pancakes. There will be a sign-up sheet on the Swim Team Bulletin Board for juice donations and pancake servers.
Team Pictures: We take a team picture every year and we’d like your swimmer to be in it. You are not obligated to purchase one. The date and time, during team practice, will be announced and purchasing information distributed prior to picture day.
Swim and Dive Team Banquet: We cap off the season with a Swim and Dive Team Banquet. This Dinner is held on the front lawn the Sunday evening after Divisionals. Every swimmer gets a trophy.
And several special awards will be given out. The evening is traditionally capped by a multimedia show put together by senior swimmers featuring the team members.
Other Activities: Do you have an idea for a team activity? By all means bring your suggestion to the Team Rep…and be prepared to help with the event!
What’s Mandatory: While we hope you will participate in all the social activities, they are all optional.
Similarly, the purchase of team suits and other team clothing items is entirely optional. What is mandatory is that you honor your commitments and have fun!
